How to Make a Latte

Question by rosieee: How do you properly froth milk for a soy latte?
I just got a new espresso machine for Christmas, and I’m basically a beginner when it comes to making lattes. I have been trying to make a good latte but steaming the milk is difficult for me. It always turns out bubbly and not like the ideal latte milk froth. And it always bubbles over. Any tips on how to work with soy milk (or is it just the quality of the machine?)?

make sure that the frothing wand is deep down inside your carafe. move it in gentle circles, and just watch the froth on top. When you get to your desired consistancy, turn the frother off. You also want to be aware of your temprature. It might help to get a little thermometer to put in the carafe while you are steaming.

when steaming the milk, make sure the wand is deep inside but don’t hold the cup upright while steaming. the wand should be on one side of the cup, not directly in the middle and the cup should be tilted a little.

Some espresso machines don’t come with the best milk frother, and I personally like to do it with an external milk frother. It typically makes for better milk frothing. I’m a fan of the Aerolatte Milk Frother – I ordered mine from http://zaccardis.com/aerolatte.html, and it’s on sale for $ 24.95. I definitely suggest it!
