Can lates be made in an expresso machine?
i dont know if this is a stupid question sorry if it is :p. im looking at buying a coffee machine but when i looked on ebay they were all called expresso machines? do these make lates as wee? coz i dont really drink expresso’s so i dont want to buy one and not use it. btw theres a sunbean cafe crema expresso machine for AU$159 (from a shop not ebay), is that worth it
Latte = shots of espresso, steamed milk and a little foam.
It really depends what you want out of your machine. Things you need to really look at with an espresso machine is the size of the water tank and how it will pull the shots. The bigger the water tank the less time you will have to wait to pull your shots and you will get more power out of your steam wand. Then when you are looking at the shots you want to look for a feature that is called pressurized shots. You want to know that a full force of water is hitting the coffee extracting as much caffeine is possible in 18 seconds. So everything becomes relative to the price. The higher quality of the machine the higher the price. The best machine I sold has been the DeLonghi Magnifica (they now have a newer version). It’s a completely automated machine that grinds the coffee for you pulls the shot and its all done by a click of one button. The water tank is a great size so you don’t have to wait long to steam milk. The newer version offers the steam wand so you don’t have to air rate it yourself creating the foam for you.
There are cheaper ways to make a latte but if you are a drinker, you’ll notice that it isn’t the same. The shots won’t have that caramelized sweetness to it and the milk without getting the proper air will just taste flat.

A latte is espresso with steamed milk, usually dressed with a dollop of foam.
If the machine has a steam wand you can make your hot milk for your latte. You need to make espresso as well.
Less expensive – particularly if you don’t drink lattes that often – is to buy instant espresso powder, mix it into some milk and heat it on the stove or in the microwave.
